What to Expect from your Evensong Home Birth

Choosing a home birth is a wonderful option to birth in the place where you feel the most safe and respected. Whether this is your first baby or your first experience with home birth, you may be wondering what to expect.

During your Labor

You can nourish yourself as you see fit.  You can invite the support that works for your family.  We practice the informed-consent model: we will be with you every step of the way to help you make informed decisions about your pregnancy and birth.   You can move freely.  You can birth in the position that you desire.

You will be cared for by nurse-midwives and registered nurses.  We have trained for this for years! Carrie and Beth have a total of 30 years experience in birth!  We truly love birth and are so excited to help you through this milestone.

We believe your body was built for this, and that birth is a normal, healthy life event.  We will be with you for your labor, when YOU decide you need us, and for several hours postpartum to ensure that you are well taken care of.  We will visit you a few times the first week, in your home, after you’ve given birth to your baby. We also provide care for your baby for the first month of life!

What you won’t have to worry about with at a home birth:

You get to skip the hurried drive to the hospital!  No one dictates who is present at your birth except you.  You will not be asked to wear a mask.  You will not be swabbed for anything you do not want. You will not need to shuffle your children elsewhere while you labor.  You won’t have to make a long drive to the hospital. No worrying if you forgot to pack anything in your hospital bag. No awkward handing over your birth plan and hoping the nurse or provider will accept it.  No wondering which unknown provider will actually be present with you for your birth.

Instead, you will birth with those you love and trust surrounding you. You won’t need to pack or unpack your bags. You will have access to your own kitchen which means more nourishing food choices. You can accept visitors whenever you’re ready. You can have your children present if you’d like. You’re able to be tucked into your own bed with your new baby. You will have uninterrupted time to bond with your new baby.

The Investment

The cost of the Home Birth Care Package is $7000, which includes all of your prenatal visits (10-13), care during labor/birth/immediate recovery, a nurse-midwife present at your birth, postpartum care, and routine infant care for the first 28 days. It does not cover imaging (ultrasounds), labs, herbs/supplements, or any external care you may have during pregnancy (such as chiropractic, acupuncture, perinatology, etc.) It is typically paid in 3 installments throughout the pregnancy, where $500 is collected at your second visit.
